Kampala — THE UPDF has given residents of Loputuk parish in Nadunget sub-county, Moroto district one week to handover 11 guns that were used in a cattle raid in Kenya on Saturday night. UPDF spokesperson Lt. Caesar Olweny said a forceful cordon-and-search option may be taken if the residents do not hand over the arms.
"It is criminal to cross into a neighbouring country with the aim of denying people property ownership," Olweny said on Sunday during an emergency meeting in Moroto.
The district commissioner of North Pokot in Kenya, Joseph Matari, told Moroto resident district commissioner Nahaman Ojwee that 11 raiders armed with AK47 assault rifles attacked the Pokot villages.
Matari added that one warrior, identified as Lodudu, a resident of Loputuk, was killed during a fire exchange between the Pokot and Matheniko warriors, which lasted at least four hours.
He said Lodudu's body was left in Nasak village, North Pokot. Olweny advised the Karimojong to be satisfied with the cattle they had and desist from greed.
"Why should you go raiding and end up loosing your life?" he wondered.
