Monrovia — The Liberian Leader, President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf says the Government of Liberia does not have any reason to say that somebody is a threat to the security of the Liberian State.
She said it is the Security Council of the United Nations that placed some Liberians on travel ban and not 0the Liberian people. Madam Sirleaf explained that there is no Executive Order to freeze the assets of any Liberian and that it is not the intention of the UP led government to do so.
This clarification comes in the wake of rumors circulating in the country that the Unity Party led Government is trying to freeze the assets of former government officials to stop them from participating in the next general and presidential elections.
The Security Council of the United Nations imposed travel ban on some citizens of Liberia following the end of the 14 years civil war that devastated the country’s infrastructures and caused the death of over three hundred thousand Liberians. The Council has been selectively dropping names from the travel ban list as it deems necessary.

I just dont believe madam Sirleaf because in the past she has proven to twist the truth on many occasions. For instance, initially she said that it was not her who made the request to the president of Nigeria to turn Taylor over. Later she changed her story and said that she did. In her book This Child will be Great is full of inconsistency between her side of the story and those that were mentioned in the book. For example, Tom woyuowo-sp and Jewel Taylor were mentioned in the book they both have debunked the disinformation in the book. Ellen doesnt only flips but she also flaps.
Ellen is known for throwing stones and hiding her hands. In other words, it is her idea or suggestion to the UN to freeze these guys assets and to the contrary she eluding the fact. After all, the UN doesnt run a Country it the leader. But what Ellen fails to know is what goes around comes around. One day she will have to step down from her throne and the next person that will be in charge may go after her lieutenants for corruption. Its difficult and impossible for me to understand how naïve Ellen can be to go after people for corruption when her government has been label the most corrupt government in the history of Liberia.
The Struggle Continues!
Ellen knows exectly what is goibg on. But TWT.
Good points, Zota. And another point that I want to make too is how her statement contradicts recent developments. First, the international court based in the Hague has just hired an U.S. firm WITH THE PERMISSION of the Liberian government to go after the monies of Charles Taylor, his business partners and former officials in his government. Also, the Swiss Bank, the bank where many African leaders (former and current) hide their money, recently announced that it would be lifting the veil of secrecy it has maintained throughout its history and release the names of its account holders, but it cannot do so without the request of sitting governments. Lastly, Ellen herself has just acknowledged that the Liberian government revenue collection is dwindling. A savvy politician would take all this in totality and jump to the chance and give the permission. Heck, the U.S. government has (albeit for tax purposes),and Nigeria, the most corrupt country in Africa, has just recovered U.S. $175m in bribe money by oil companies to its government officials and is pursuing recovery of billions more. Why can't Ellen do the same? Unless, of course, she has something to hide or is trying cover for people inside her government; or she once again lying and making unrealistic promises she cannot keep.
