Angola: South Korea May Help Diversify Angola's Mining Industry

Luanda — Angolan minister of Geology and Mining, Mankenda Ambroise, Thursday in Luanda admitted the possibility of South Korea to participate in the process of diversifying the Angolan mining industry through the establishment of partnerships in mining iron, copper, nickel, coal and zinc.

Mankenda Ambroise said this when he was addressing a delegation of senior officials of the office of South Korea's Prime Minister and institutions of the energy sector of that Asian country, during a meeting aimed at discussing the areas for future investments.

He said that there is an open market economy policy in Angola that favours cooperation, through public-private partnerships in mining.

According to the minister, the exploration of mineral resources is of the Angolan government's interest and therefore he stressed the possibility of Korea to join Angolan institutions, such as Ferrangol firm, which is involved in mining activity.

The source explained that Angola is committed to diversifying the mining of industry and the Korean's interest in this sector converges with that of the State, thereby they might invest in the country.

He mentioned some mining activities underway in terms of exploring coal (in Cassange region), Nickel (Lubango and Namibe regions), as well as in some eastern zones of the country.

The South Korean delegation to the meeting was led by the director of the Prime Minister's office, Kim Eun seok
