Nigeria: Alleged N30 Billion Debt Threatens Dakingari-Aliero Bond

Lagos — In Kebbi State, the administration of Alhaji Saidu Dakingari literarily went fishing for trouble recently when its town criers alleged that it inherited a staggering N30 billion debt from the immediate past government of the state headed by Senator Adamu Aliero. Aliero, who handed over to Dakingari on May 29, 2007, had a brief spell in the Senate prior to his present appointment as the Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Saka Ibrahim, who has been trailing the controversy, reports that the State House of Assembly has waded into debt allegation with a view to ascertaining whether it is real or hoax

The chummy relationship between the Kebbi State governor, Alhaji Saidu Dakingari and his political godfather and predecessor, Senator Adamu Aliero may have been ruptured. The unexpected development followed controversial claims by some aides of Governor Dakingari over the state government's liabilities as at May 29, 2007 when Aliero handed over the reins of power to the incumbent.
