Nigeria: Kwankwaso, Associates Shun PDP Rally

Former governor of Kano State, Engineer Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and his political associates were absent from a rally organized by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the weekend. Daily Trust gathered that on the eve of the rally, the former governor announced on local radio through one of his aides that all his associates and followers should shun the meeting, saying he was not aware of it.But speaking during the reconciliation rally Saturday in Kano, Ambassador Aminu Wali said all the factions in the state had been notified of the meeting. Ambassador Wali revealed that the only faction that had no representation at the rally was Engineer Kwankwaso's faction, saying he would not relent in efforts to mend the party's fences. Wali said he "took the bull by the horns" to convene a reconciliatory meeting at his residence which he said had brought relative peace to the party.

He added that the Saturday's meeting, though not attended by all, had succeeded, as invitations sent to party leaders and supporters in the 44 local governments of Kano State were honored. Ambassador Wali said he would not leave any stone unturned in the effort to reunite the feuding forces, saying the six years of ANPP governance in Kano had made supporters of PDP to suffer. He said the efforts he made six months back were making the work of the PDP state caretaker committee easier, because according to him, the caretaker and himself were moving towards achieving the same goal. He also called on the party supporters in the state to accept the decision of the national headquarters which dissolved the state's party leadership and appointed a caretaker committee. This, he said, was telling the supporters that more was needed from them to bring back the lost glory of the party.
