Somalia: Banadir Administration Says They Took Control Over Key Checkpoint

Mogadishu — Abdifatah Ibrahim Shaweye, the deputy governor of Banadir region said Monday that they took over the control of Ex-control Afgoi checkpoint in South of the Somali capital Mogadishu.

Mr. Shaweye told reporters that the government soldiers took over the control of the main checkpoint of Ex-control Afgoi checkpoint from the Islamist forces who forcibly captured earlier from the Government Soldiers.

Ex-control Afgoi is a key checkpoint that that connects the main road of the Somali capital and Afgoi town which is 30 kilometers south of the capital Mogadishu..

Asked about how they captured the checkpoint from the Islamist forces, he declined to comment on it adding that the checkpoint is on their hand now.

It is yet unclear whether the government troops captured Ex-control checkpoint by fighting or not

The step comes as many forces loyal to the Al-shabab and Hisbul Islam(Islamic party ) took over more government bases in the heavy fighting with government soldiers in the past over four days in the Somali capital.
