Eritrea: Ambassador Alem Holds Talks With Singaporean Government Officials

Asmara — In a course of a visit to Singapore from May 3 to 6, the Eritrean Ambassador to India, Mr. Alem Tsehaye, held talks with a number of the country's officials.

The Ambassador conducted discussion with the Singaporean Prime Minister, Lee Hisen Long, Foreign Minister Jorge Yo, and the Deputy Executive Director of the Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Tan Poh Tek, on bilateral relations and the prevailing situation in the Horn region.

In the meeting, Mr. Alem gave extensive briefings on the objective situation in Eritrea and the Horn of Africa, as well as Eritrea's role in promoting peace in the region.

Indicating that there exist ample investment opportunities in Eritrea in the domains of mining, tourism, agriculture and fisheries, he pointed out that a Free Economic Zone is being established in a very strategic location and called on Singaporean investors to seize the opportunities. Ambassador Alem further noted the need for the two countries to enhance development and technical cooperation, beyond trade and investment.

The Singaporean Foreign Minister on his part said that he closely follows up Eritrea's role in the Horn of Africa and expressed admiration to the implementation of development programs in the country and the achievements being registered. He also expressed Singapore's readiness to continue technical cooperation with Eritrea through offering training courses.
