Somalia: Fresh Fighting Starts in Mogadishu

Mogadishu — At least 11 people were injured in fresh fighting between government troops and Islamist rebels that has flared up near 4 Jardin intersection in the Somali capital Mogadishu, witnesses told Shabelle Media on Wednesday.

Sources said that the fighting started first near 4 Jardin intersection and sparked other neighborhoods in Yaqshid district like Suqba'ad, the second largest market in Mogadishu.

Residents said the fighting was heavy and the two sides have used heavy gun fire. Reports say that the Islamist rebels took control of the contested areas and there is no word from the government yet.

Ali Muse of Mogadishu emergency services told Sabelle Media that they took 11 wounded patients to hospitals.
