Angola: Country to Join International Renewable Energy Agency

Luanda — The United Arab Emirates (UAE) Energy minister, Mohamed Bin Dhaen al Hamil, Wednesday in Luanda invited Angola to join the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), in order to improve the quality of the energy in the country.

According to a source who spoke to Angop, after the meeting between minister Mohamed Bin Dahaen al Hamil and his Angolan counterpart, Manuela Vieira Lopes, the United Arab Emirates intends to set up the headquarters of IRENA in Madar City, as this town has a great potential in terms of research and information in solar energy.

IRENA aims at promoting broad and sustained use of all ways of renewable energies (solar, wind and mini hydric power), taking into account the local proprieties and benefits that come from the combined implementation of the renewable energy sources and efficiency.

IRENA is an organisation that deals in issues related to renewable energies both in industrialised and developing countries.

The organisation was founded in January 2009 in Bona, Germany, and comprises 75 member countries.

According to the visit programme, Mohamed al Hamil, who is at the head of a delegation of his ministry, arrived on Wednesday afternoon in Luanda. He is expected to be received on Thursday by the Angolan president, José Eduardo dos Santos.
