Ghana: 'Abodam' Appears in Court for Stealing

The ace Ghanaian Hip-life artiste, Emmanuel Botwe, alias Abodam, was yesterday arraigned before an Accra Circuit Court for stealing an amount of £7,000 belonging to his former girlfriend, who is resident in the United Kingdom (UK).

The accused person, also known as Kwaw Kese, pleaded not guilty to the charges of stealing, and was granted bail in the sum of GH¢15,000, with a surety to be justified.

He is to re-appear in court today, May 13, 2009, for further evidence to be adduced by the court.

Providing the facts of the case before the court, Inspector Michael Jubiok indicated that the accused person and the complainant, Happy Chapell, were until this case, very good lovers.

According to the prosecutor, the complainant last year decided to develop her piece of land at Prampram, after the couple had visited the place.

Following the visit, the complainant left for the UK and returned home in January 2009 and gave £7,000.00 to the accused person for a building to be constructed for her on the piece of land, the prosecutor told the court.

The prosecutor further told the court that on receipt of the said amount, Kaw Kese did not use the money for the purpose for which it was obtained, and the complainant though made several efforts to retrieve her money, they proved unsuccessful.

The prosecution noted that the complainant lodged a complaint with the police and the accused person was arrested, adding that during interrogation, the accused person admitted receiving £1,000 instead, which was meant for the purchase of his personal blocks, and not for the complainant's housing project.
