Huambo — Sports officials in central Huambo province called for the building, in its capital, of a national Olympic village, judging by the climate characteristics the region has, in contrast to Luanda, as provided by the Ministry of Sports.
The appeal was launched Thursday at the presentation of a preliminary plan, at Higher Council of Sports.
The sports officials called on the Ministry to conduct public consultations aimed at collecting contributions of civil society and in particular the country's sports officials for enrichment of the referred project.
According to the president of the Angolan Olympic Academy, Rogério Silva, the future Olympic village should be built in Huambo, a highland region where the climate is favourable to the sport. This was also upheld by the football coach Arlindo Leitão who considered the venue as the right choice.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports was recommended to review the issue where the Olympic village will be built, as well as the separation between the village and the training centre of high performance sport.
In his turn, the deputy-minister of Sports, Albino da Conceição pledged that a campaign, aimed at collecting opinions on the implementation of the project, will be held countrywide.
