Human Rights Consultative Committee (HRCC) has said levels of violence during the 2009 campaign period in preparation for the 19 May general elections have decreased compared to what was experienced in 2004.
The campaign period has ended today at 6 o'clock in the morning.
HRCC vice National Coordinator Cecilia Mussa said the development is a clear demonstration that Malawians have realized that power is not a tool to bring personal agenda.
"There is life after May 19 elections and this is good realization. It is our hope that political parties will promote peaceful elections by accepting defeat," she said.
However, HRCC condemned the stoning of President Bingu Wa Mutharika and former president Bakili Muluzi's convoys in Lilongwe and Thyolo respectively recentry.
In a statement HRCC National Coordinator Mabvuto Bamusi said the act is uncalled for and called upon the police to tighten security.
"We ask the police to bring to book whoever will be caught promoting violence," he said.
He then appealed to all voters not to vote for politicians who promote violence.
