Concord Times — Vice President Samuel Sam-Sumana has said in Freetown that the training of 17 chiefdom security coordinators was an added advantage to boost security in Sierra Leone.
He made the statement while giving his keynote address at the certification ceremony of the first ever chiefdom security coordinators training at the presidential lounge, National Stadium in Freetown.
He said the session would help improve and maintain the country's peace as it was the priority of government to maintain peace and tranquillity.
"The swift response to security call is the priority of government and the office of the national security (ONS). Government would continue to work and strengthen the security network in the country," he said.
ONS boss, Rtd. Brig. Kelly Conteh said the recruitment and training of the chiefdom security coordinators was a milestone achievement within the security sector in the country.
He said the chiefdom security coordinators' programme was geared towards bringing the national security to the grassroots, inline with the president's desire to see a coordinated national security effort.
"The establishment of chiefdom security committees echoes the new approach to security by all and for all.
"These approaches will not only capacitate security sector in effectively carrying out their responsibilities but also arouse the confidence of the people in the security system," he said
The ONS boss affirmed his institution willingness and commitment to deliver the needed security for the country.
