Uganda: Candidates Warned on Malpractice

Kampala — CANDIDATES in the local government by-elections have been warned against violating the electoral laws.

"Nobody is above the law regardless of their political affiliation. If any of you is caught giving gifts to voters, he or she will be arrested. You must guard against breaking electoral laws," the Jinja district returning officer, Flavia Mujuzi, said.

She was addressing candidates and their agents at the district council hall yesterday.

She warned the media against announcing the winner before the official results were out.

The district Police commander, John Cohen Arinaitwe, said the Police was ready and all operation orders were in place to avert any electoral malpractices.
