Recent official results which Malawi Electoral Commission has released have shown that Bingu wa Mutharika is leading the presidential race with over 50%.
MEC chairperson Anastansia Msosa announced that the commission has managed to process results from 1220 out of 3897 polling stations which is adding up to 31.31% of the total results.
Mutharika who is the incumbent President has so far got 1,142,422 votes while his contender Tembo is trailing with 321,101 votes.
Msosa said the commission will be able to release 50% of the results in late in the afternoon.
She said the final results are expected to be ready later in the evening.
