Luanda — The national assembly (parliament) approved today the adhesion of Angola to the African Youth Charter, a legal instrument regulating the action of the African Union member states towards youngsters.
According to the approved resolution, the Charter confers special attention to youth for its role in the process of Africa development in the fields of education, health, erradication of poverty and illiteracy, enviroment protection and conservation, social and economic integration, peace and security and strenghtening of friendship and solidarity among people.
Under the Charter, the angolan government and partners will design public policies for youth and create national mechanisms of co-ordination that will be the springboard and liason agents for the promotion of the youth associative movement, make sure the support to the diffusion and implementation of the Charter, so as the enhancement of cultural and entertaining initiatives of youth associations.
The document was introduced by deputy foreign minister, Exalgina Gamboa, and was unanimously voted for by the 172 MPs present at the meeting.
The meeting chaired by the Speaker, Fernando Dias dos Santos, also approved the resolution on Angola adhesion to african youth charter, the Ombundsman report for the years 2005, 2006 and 2007, and discussed the budget of the constitutional commission, the regulation of the inspection visits to the government and the rule on the use of the MP badge.
