Zimbabwe: Seed Co Comes to Rescue of Triplets

Harare — THE triplets deserted by their father shortly after birth now have a start in life after Seed Co gave their mother food and goods and promised more help.

The company gave her 100kg of maize meal, four blankets, 100kg wheat, 20kg sugar, 5kg cereals, 10kg of baby feeding formula, 3kg of salt, 5kg of kapenta and 24 litres of Mazoe Orange Crush among other goods.

Speaking at a handover ceremony held in Harare yesterday, Seed Co public relations manager Ms Marjorie Mutemererwa said the company had decided to donate to the triplets after reading about their plight in last Staurday's Herald.

"The board, management and staff have seen it fit to donate to the triplets after reading of their plight in the newspaper. It takes a community to raise a child and since we are also part of the community we decided to donate to these children and the mother," said Ms Mutemererwa.

She said Seed Co would continue to support the children and check on their progress.

"We promise to come again with some goods such as toiletries and cooking oil and check progress on the kids. Our doctors will be visiting you to do some health checks on the children," added Ms Mutemererwa.

Accepting the donation, the children's mother Mrs Chipo Tembo thanked Seed Co for the kind gesture.

Mrs Tembo was deserted by her husband for giving births to the triplets -- all girls -- saying no one in his clan had ever had twins, let alone three children at once.

The father is believed to be staying somewhere in Goromonzi.
