Last year's assessment of Senators, which saw about half of the members get a below-the-average rating in terms of such parameters as the number of bills and motions sponsored as well as the quality of contributions in plenary and at the committee level, served as a shot in the arm for members to double their efforts. Senators, in the last one year, inundated the Rules and Business Committee with bills and motions. In plenary, many Senators scrambled for recognition by the presiding officer to contribute to debates. Some did not bother themselves. This may be understandable. But Nigerians are not interested in lame and mundane explanations. Indeed, this year's assessment, based on the same parameters with last year's, as outlined below, indicates a great deal of improvement in the performance rating of members.
