Jean Claude Gasigwa, Dieu Donne Habyambere, Olivier Nkunda and on the side of the ladies Megan Ngabire, will carry the nation's flag in the East Africa Prize Championship that will take place from May 20 to 24 in Nairobi.
However, as Thierry Ntwari Gasirigi, president of the tennis federation, points out, they will play on an individual basis, not as a team.
In this US$ 40,000, the winner the men's single category will walk away with $800, the second will receive US$ 540 and third and fourth $100 each. For ladies singles, the prizes are +$ 600, 350 and 150 respectively.
Ntwali is confident that the Rwandan players stand a chance, because even if they have failed to qualify for the Davis cup in Turkey, they have gained experience, confidence and fitness.
Based on their performances this year, it seems that Jean Claude Gasigwa shows most promise having won tournaments in Uganda and Burundi in February.
