Angola: Public Works Ministry Guarantees Over 200,000 Jobs

Luanda — The Public Works deputy minister, Joanes André, on Monday revealed that over 200,000 people were employed in companies involved in the process of national reconstruction and rehabilitation of infrastructures in Angola.

Addressing a lecture on peace, reconciliation and reconstruction of the African continent, Joanes André stated that the Public Works Ministry is the sector that has the capacity of absorbing the highest quantity of Angolan manpower.

According to the minister, in 2005, 72,000 people were employed and currently over 200,000 are involved in the rehabilitation of bridges, roads, social infrastructures, a number expected to rise to 300, 000 jobs by 2010.

He added that the Angolan roads network has 75, 000 kilometres repaired and the Public Works Ministry expects to rehabilitate 12, 000 kilometres until 2013.

The deputy minister explained that at the moment the following works ares under conclusion, namely the runways of the airports of Luena( Moxico Province), Saurimo (Lunda Sul) and Kuito (Bie), as well as four soccer stadiums in the provinces of Cabinda, Benguela, Luanda and Huíla, which will host the Africa Nations Cup (CAN), as well as other social projects.
