Harare — The US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has renewed calls for the removal of President Robert Mugabe saying his departure would be in "the best interests of everyone."
The Obama administration would not give support to the all inclusive government until it gets assurance it will reach the intended beneficiaries, Clinton warned.
She said while the US government was positive about the formation of a unity government in Zimbabwe between the country's long team rival parties Zanu PF and Movement for Democratic Change (MDC), it was not prepared to change its policy towards Zimbabwe.
In what was thought to be an indirect reference, Clinton urged South Africa to exert extra force on the Zimbabwean government. "South Africa has a big role to play in this," she said.
"I think that it's up to the people and the government and, frankly, the neighbors."
"We're encouraged by the new unity government that has been created. We are not yet ready to change our policy, but it is under review," Clinton said in an interview with the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) "It's important to us that any aid from any source gets to the people of Zimbabwe,"
President Robert Mugabe and former opposition leaders Morgan Tsvangirai and Arthur Mutambara formed a unity government in February this year but it is still entangled in several complications that until this week included the appointment of provincial governors, permanent secretaries and diplomats.
MDC's national council has called on regional leaders to intervene and make a determination on all outstanding issues obstructing full execution of a power-sharing deal with Zanu PF.

Ah huh, good words and that's all it is, words. Now If Zim had Oil, America would of wanted to free the oppressed people of our nation a long time ago, If Zim had nuclear weapons, then America would be massing out in the Indian Ocean with their aircraft carriers ready to strike. We need to hear or see some sort of direct action by all those involved to sort out Dictator Bob.
zola zazu well sorry that will not happen it is an African problem that the SADC and AU needs to take care of instead of turning their heads the other way. It is a poor showing of leadership of Africa because of their lack of interest for it's own people what a shame....
Mugabe will go soon enough it may be he will die first but the USA nor Britian will step into help resolve this African problem. Honestly they should not have to id African leaders had any backbone about them Mugabe would have been gone long ago!
Afric you are right, as one once said , The bulldogs all have rubber teeth, except for the humble British bulldog who has no teeth at all. If the yanks or brits get stuck in, Bob will just say, "the imperialist west is trying to colonise us, we must rise up against them."
Zungairwa;
Whose interest will be served by removing President Mugabe from power? Obviously it is not the interest of the people of Zimbabwe who voted for and supported him since independence in 1980. Obviously it is not the many supporters greeting and cheering him wherever he goes. Obviously it is not the millions of poor people of the world who want him to liberate them from imperialism, exploitation and slavery. So whose interests will that serve?
The imperialist west, the Anglo-Saxons, was not happy with the liberation of our stolen lands. They wanted their kith and kin to remain in control of the stolen resources of Africa. They are aware that the successful reversal of land ownership patterns in Zimbabwe will herald a new push by sons and daughters of Africa for Total Independence and 100% Empowerment and by Total Independence is meant independence from external (western) control of African resources.
This is what they are afraid of and so they will continue pushing for regime change in Zimbabwe and any other country that has advocated for the removal of any colonial traces on their soils - Iran, North Korean, Venezuela, and Cuba, just to mention four. These countries and Zimbabwe have committed one of the worst sins and one of the most unforgivable sins on this earth and should be punished first by starving and killing their peoples through sanctions and then remove their leaders.
In Zimbabwe, the people have said NO to these machinations aimed at effecting regime change for them as if they do not know what they want. Thus, it is not "up to the people and the government". The people of Zimbabwe thwarted the "Final Push", they thwarted the invasion of Zimbabwe from Botswana because of Cholera, they exposed the training of bandits in Botswana, and finally they thwarted the CIA and MI6's efforts to buy votes for the MDC during the March 29, 2008 harmonized elections.
The neighbors have said NO to regime change by the former colonizers and so it is clearly not "frankly, the neighbors." Except for Botswana and Zambia before the death of Mwanawasa, all countries in the region refused to accept filthy lucre to provide forward bases to America and Britain to bomb our country. AU was equally firm that there should never be any interference in the internal politics and no invasion of Zimbabwe by anyone whatsoever, thus, appointed the great statesman and negotiator; Thabo Mbeki to bring the people of Zimbabwe together.
Now that it is not to the interest of the people and government and neighbors of Zimbabwe to remove President Mugabe, whose interests will his removal serve? Only imperialists have everything to gain by removing the legitimate and democratically elected President of Zimbabwe. If Zimbabwe goes down today then Africa will be re-colonized today - no doubt about that. The only leader, in Africa, who has stood against imperialism, is President Mugabe.
No wonder he is cheered wherever he goes to by the poor people of those countries be it in Europe, America, Asia, Africa, and The Middle East. He is the man of the people and so if he is removed, it will be another 500 years before we get a leader with guts and stamina to stand up to western aggression like him.
It is therefore up to you Africa to stand up to this aggression which is being visited upon the people of The Great Nation of Zimbabwe. It is up to you Africa and the progressive world to stand by and with the people of Zimbabwe in this hour of need. Africa, please do not look at the face of the regime in America but the system that shaped what we know to be America today. Remember that it is not the President of America that has no permanent friends but ONLY permanent interests but America the country.
ALUTA CONTINUA!!! THE STRUGGLE CONTINUES!!!
Takunya is just another lunatic!
How dares he say people voted for criminal Mugabe when its public knowledge that he rigged his way to illegitimate power!!
The rotten fish Mugabe has got to be thrown away into the dustbin of history; It's the only way left for Zimbos to start breathing afresh!
Clinton is right to say what NGOs have been denouncing all the time. Foreign aid does not reach the common people. It's disgraceful to learn Grace bought a US$ 4 million luxurious apartment for her daughter in Hong Kong when millions of Zimbos go without food!
It must be blood diamond and diverted foreign aid funnelled by bootlicker Gono straight into Grace bank account!
Zimbabwe does not need empty slogans for its revival. Bloodstained Mugabe and his thugs must go. The rotten banana republic must be allowed to turn itself into a new vibrant nation by selfless patriots like Tsvangirai.
