Kampala — Women in Teso region have been urged to put pressure on their husbands who posses illegal guns to surrender them to the army.

"When you are making love, do not just stop at praising your husbands. You should also talk to them about the dangers of possessing guns illegaly," urged Capt. Jeff Okwii Emojong, the commander of Operation Restore Hope in Teso.

The operation is a UPDF special force deployed in Teso to recover illegal guns. He said there were over 180 guns in Gweri sub-county.

Okwii made the remarks during a ceremony at which he handed over a certificate of appreciation and recognition to David Omoit of Takaramiam village in Soroti district who voluntarily surrendered his gun on May 17.

Omoit reportedly bought the gun at sh1m from Karamoja because he wanted to kill his brother-in-law, John Okiror, whom Omoit suspected of poisoning his brother.

Omoit attempted to kill Okiror twice.
