Monrovia — The Assistant Resident Representative for Governance at the United Nations Development Programme, Ms. Nessie Golakai has assured the Liberia anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) of UNDP support in promoting a credible and transparent society where public officials are held accountable in their service to the country. She said “UNDP support to the LACC is intended to enhance the rule of law, build strong and credible national integrity systems based on persistence and deterrence”.

Ms. Golakai was speaking recently at the offices of the LACC when she handed over 10 computers to facilitate the work of the commission. The computers were procured under the “Support to the LACC” project funded under the Peace Building Fund.  The project will also provide 2 vehicles, office equipment, stationeries and furniture to strengthen the capacity of the LACC secretariat.

The UNDP Assistant Resident Representative noted that the project will also support capacity building for members of the commission in the form of training, study tours and expert advisory service to create the necessary capacity in dealing with issues of corruption in society.

Receiving the computers on behalf of the commission, the Officer-in-Charge at the LACC Mr. Joseph Acqui commended UNDP for the donation. He said the computers will help in jump starting the work of the LACC. Mr. Acqui called on other institutions to support the work of the commission in ridding the society of corruption.
