Rwanda: Double Blow for Country in TZ

Julius Mbaraga

30 May 2009

Kigali — Rwanda suffered a double blow when Dieudonne Habiyambere and Olivier Nkunda were knocked out at the semi-finals of the CAT / Tanzania money circuit being held at Dar es Salaam's Gymkhana sports club.

Just as everyone's adrenaline seemed to go up, it was not meant to be for the pair. Nkunda was the first to fall after a straight sets defeat (4-6, 4-6) against Tanzania's Kiango Kipingu.

In the second semi-final, Habiyambere started well winning the first set 6-2 but that was all there was for the Rwandan as Tanzania's Omar Abdul Mukina won the second and third sets 6-3 and 7-5 to book his spot in the final.

Habiyambere was Abdul's third Rwandan victim after Mathieu Uwizeyimana and Jean Claude Gasigwa. It will therefore be an all Tanzania final as Abdul takes on Kipingu in today's final. The winner will pocket US$850 while the losing finalist will settle for US$550.
