THE ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dissociated itself from the statement by the deputy national chairman, Dr. Bello Haliru Mohammed, accusing the government of the United States, US, of plotting with the opposition in Nigeria to destabilise the country.
Mohammed had claimed that the US government and its embassy in Nigeria were conspiring with the opposition to cause confusion and destabilize the government of President Umaru Yar'Adua.
According to the deputy national chairman, the US embassy was planning to organise a meeting with the pro-democracy groups in Nigeria and President Barack Obama while in Ghana for his state official visit.
But the party in a statement signed by the national publicity secretary, Professor Rufai Ahmed Alkali, in Abuja, yesterday, dissociated the PDP from the views expressed by Mohammed against the backdrop that there was no time the issue was discussed at any level or organ of the party, adding that the statement at best represents his personal opinion.

Good thinking, PDP – you better distance your organization from this confused administration that is rapidly going down in flames. A party is a long-term organization while administrations are short-term affairs - they come and go with the tide. PDP, do not tarnish the reputation of your vast membership with this visionless and corrupt administration. In fact, Emperor Yar's lackluster performance should be grounds for it to be replaced come 2011, or else, PDP will go down with it. This current crop should be replaced by a healthier, visionary and caring candidate, even if the Presidential candidate has to come from the North to complete that region's final 4-year term. Buhari would do because I don't trust any northern civilian politician anymore, at least until the Ribadu and El-Rufai era come of age, 20 years from now. But that new 2011 candidate must be willing to carry the rest of the nation along by reflecting our federal character and not be as nepotistic and corrupt as Yar's has demonstrated, so far, in his appointments, pretensions in prosecuting corrupt officials, and turning the military guns on defenseless citizens. PDP, your reputation and survival is on the line here. You better step up or step aside.
