Liberia: Fear Grips Prince Johnson for War Crimes Court Says Aborigines Names Listed

AllAfrica aggregates reports from Africa's news media. This is an article from the Liberian press. It is not a report by AllAfrica.

Nimba County Senior Senator, Prince Johnson on Monday said he has uncovered a list of individuals to be recommended to the War Crimes Court for crime against the Liberian People during the 15-year civil unrest in the country.

Senator Johnson alleged that the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Liberia (TRC) is intending to indict over 110 former fighters who participated in the Liberian civil crisis since 1990, most of whom are aborigines.

The Nimba County Lawmaker averred that some of the names he saw on the list of TRC to be recommended for War Crimes court in the country are Roland Duo, the late Isaac Musa, the late Samuel Varney, Saah Gbollie, including his name (Prince Johnson) among others. He also disclosed further that there were some permanent Liberians whose names were reflected on the same list, but were crossed out for reasons best known to writer.

Senator Johnson maintained that the TRC should not have listed names of fighters and warlords of various warring factions without adding the names of those who support and help to bring the war into the country.

Senator Johnson said the names of people who supported the war in the country were not to have been left out of the process by the TRC. Noting, the action by TRC is a complete selective justice against them and will not allow it to happen.

He also revealed that there is a planned conference by the TRC where 0ver 340 delegates are illegally selected and to be given US$100,000 for successful hosting of the conference that is to be held from the 15th to the 20th of June 2009.

He also told reporters during the news briefing that TRC has proposed that any name appear on the list for war crimes will not be eligible for the coming general and presidential elections.

The Nimba County Senator said plans by the TRC to carry out the selection of individuals for the War Crimes court is promulgated by some prominent Liberians who he said are still aggrieved as a result of the war in Liberia.

He accused Governance Commission (GC) Chairman Dr. Amos Sawyer and TRC Chairman Cllr. Jerome Verdier.

When contacted, James Kpargoi of the press and public affairs department of TRC denied the statement by the Nimba County Senator and said that such statement by the Senator is erroneous and far from the truth.

He Pointed out that Senator Johnson is not a member of the TRC therefore he does not know the inner work of the Commission.

He however called on the Lawmaker not to distract the attention of the commissioners of TRC.

Prince Johnson, the former war-Lord,the man who captured and killed President Doe, the man who killed those he perceived as enemies, the war-Lord turned Preacher and the War-Lord turned Politician. I sit here to send this mail in reaction to the tendency of Mr. Johnson in always trying to keep the Liberian people in fear. It is observed that every time Mr. Johnson comes out there is some accusation he has to make against someone or some organization, all in the name of distracting people from living peacefully, and keeping them in fear. This is not a good practice. PYJ, I will like to find out something from you, and this is what is your present status in the Liberian society, and furthermore, are you part of this present Government of Ellen Sirleaf? Well, if you are to tell me Yes then, I will have to tell you one thing and this is you either be part of the Government and contribute productively and peacefully than to continue thinking of your war period time. Natives were the main ones that were killed by you people calling yourselves freedom fighters. Tribalism, was what you based your war on and for this we as Liberians are tired of your tactics, so leave us alone and let us try to redevelop ourselves and build our country that you and others destroyed. What do yhou have to be afraid of if you told thte world and the Liberian people that you were fighting a just war and a war to liberate the people from corruption and the dictatorial government of the late Samuel Doe. Relax and do not be afraid Johnson, and let that time of the story appear and let us find out if you were doing the right thing as you were always saying, okay?

Dear Mr. Johnson, You definitely are living in utopia. Nowhere in the world that people who commit mass murder and cime against humanity will go with impunity. Not only you' so called senator Johnson, but all of you who engaged yourselves in this mass killings of your country people and others will one day or the other pay for your crimes. Right assure this is a fact. Perhaps it may not be now but that time will come that those who are alive will see that justice. Mr. Johnson, relax; don't be worry. When the appropiate time comes then of course every one shall be judged according to his/her deals.

I think Mr. Prince Johnson is entitled to his right to voice out any suspicion of wrong doing in our " JUST BORNED LIVING TOGETHER" as one people nation. If we have a group of people who were put in place to do the right thing for good cause and are doing the opposite, someone needs to talk about it. We should not wait until the country is destroyed by few people who are making ways for their family or particular group before we start looking for the cause of the problem. By voicing out,we will at lease show finger to the direction in which our next destruction of our country will come from.

The last destruction of our country started at first with the so-called CONGO people wanting more( Rampant Corruption and misused of public offices) and using the native people to take their chambers and eating the crumps of food left over for Yarkpawolo. During this period, many did not know how to write their own names and could not go forefront to say Tubman was cheating. Then came Yarkpawolo who has been suppressed over so many years taking over with minimum education. The last group set the stage for tribal hunting, misused of public office and implanting corruption babies in the soil. Nimba people for which Mr. Prince Johnson fought were hunted from house to house, their children were dumped in well and were killed in church where god was present. Liberian did not see the tears of Nimbaians at this time. We all know the rest of the story from the war for which so people are still serving in foreign country for crime against our people.

Today, we are again in Liberia. The Reeves, Greaves and others continued to steal our money again and no one is talking or coming out strong to talk. When Mr. Prince Johnson just opened his mouth to talk about hidden agenda undertaken by trusted people... People are jumping from their skin to point fingers. Are we for real or false people when it comes to facing the truth? Do we cover our eyes when Sawyer is stealing our money? Do we climb over the hill and yell because Yarkpawolo said people are not being treated equally?

This land belongs to all of us.

You be the judge or else we will all be send people out of Liberia again soon...

" THE LOVE OF LIBERTY BROUGHT US HERE."
