Cameroon: CAMASEJ - New Executive Visits Bamenda

The Cameroon Association of English Speaking Journalists, CAMASEJ, is aiming high with the new executive taking some laudable steps to keep the association on the move. The new executive led by the president Tricia Oben was in Bamenda over the weekend for its first national executive meeting just one week into office.

During their stay in Bamenda, the National executive paid courtesy visits to the Governor Abakar Ahmat, SDF National Chairman John Fru Ndi and the publisher of the Chronicle Newspaper Metumu Eric who each popped champagne in their encouragement for journalism that ensures development. They all preached balanced reporting and the defense of the profession and members of the fourth estate.

In to the executive meeting proper, the national executive resolved with the creation of an ethics committee as a self regulatory instrument in the practice of journalism. The ethics committee according to Tricia Oben is a tribunal of honour and an instrument to reconcile pressmen and women, sanctions, register and examine complaints from the public in the interest of balanced reporting. The CAMASEJ executive also hailed the Bamenda chapter for its dynamism and pace setting role. They also resolved to institute an annual CAMASEJ Awards as well as the institution of special awards to the best English language and English Literature students at the GCE Ordinary and Advanced levels beginning this year. They also resolved to embark on a nation wide tour to all chapters.

While in Bamenda, the Tricia Oben-led executive visited media houses in Bamenda to enable the executive avail themselves with the working milieu and conditions of CAMASEJ Members of the Bamenda Chapter. Choves Loh who doubles as the Chapter President and National Vice President welcomed the election of Tricia Oben to introduce a new lease of life to the association. He appealed for the national executive to stay focused, lift standards with opportunities abroad and support their dream project of taking journalism to all schools in the North West Region. John B Ndeh, a national CAMASEJ patron also went encouraging the national executive to bring sanity to the profession during their stay in Bamenda.
