Kampala — MEMBERS of Alpine Honey Producers have signed an agreement with the Uganda Wildlife Authority to allow them start bee-keeping in Queen Elizabeth National Park.

"We are fabricating not less than 800 hives for the first phase and we shall fabricate more so that all the selected locations are covered. We intend to set up 1,000 hives" the group chairperson, Benedicto Bidodo, said.

Honey production in Kasese has been beefed up by Bunyangabu Bee-keeping Community in Kabarole district with funding from HIVOS, an international donor agency.

Bunyangabu Bee-keeping Community, one of the biggest honey producing organisations in the country, has provided over sh50m in the form of modern hives and protective gear to bee-farmers in Kasese.

The project will enable the farmers fight poverty and check destruction of their crops by elephants, which cross into the farms.
