Luanda — The National Blood Bank of the Health Ministry needs annually at least 100,000 voluntary donors, nationwide, compared to the current 5,000.
Speaking to ANGOP on Sunday, on the sidelines of the march to mark the World Blood Donor Day (June 14), the director of the institution, Luzia Fernandes Dias, said that the current figure corresponds to the country's necessities by 25 percent.
According to her, the blood bank needs nearly 280,000 units of the product per year, and she defended the need to replace family donors with voluntary donors in order to achieve the 100 percent rate.
According to her, there is a need to define strategies for a meaningful increase of voluntary donors.
This year the event is being commemorated under the motto "100 percent of blood of voluntary donors".
