TWO northern Namibia schools this week received a donation of 72 bicycles from the Cycle to School Project (Cool Project).
The two schools are the Okanimekwa Combined School in the Omusati Region and Afoti Combined School in the Oshana Region and the bicycles are meant for pupils living far from the schools and have to travel long distances daily.
The bicycles were handed over by Former President Sam Nujoma, as patron of the Michelle McLean Children's Trust, who commended the Cool Project for its efforts to help the underprivileged.
The Cool Project was founded by Dr Ndeutala Angolo-Amutenya, Permanent Secretary in the Office of the President, and Philip Ellis, principal partner in Ellis and Partners Legal Practitioners, in December 2004.
The Cool Project received N$80 000 from Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt to buy bicycles for rural schools in northern Namibia.
According to Nujoma, the bicycles were specially built in Germany at a factory in Remagen. The Former President said that the Michelle McLean Children's Trust has also donated N50 000 to buy about 85 bicycles for another school in the North.
