Luanda — The national campaign of vaccination called "Viva a Vida com saude", promoted by the Angolan Government, was officially opened Monday in Luanda, at a symbolic act held at Talatona Conventions Centre.
Part of the programme of Fourth National Forum on Children, the symbolic act was presided over by the ministers of Health, José Van-Dúnem, Social Welfare, João Baptista Kussumua, and Planning, Ana Dias Lourenço, who in the occasion administrated the dose to some children present at the venue.
For this campaign, the Angolan Government and its partners have provided USD 10.5 million for the implementation of the national campaign of immunisation "Viva a Vida com Saúde".
The countrywide campaign will be held in three phases, being the first in the urban areas, while for the rural zones it scheduled for June 28-29.
The third phase will take place next September 01-09, an activity that will involve more than 26,000 people, among them health technicians, coordinators and team supervisors, social mobilizing agents and national advisers.
With the objective to reduce the maternal and infant mortality, part of the government actions for 2009/2012 period, it is foreseen to immunise in this second national campaign about 3.3 million children from nine months and four million others against polio from zero to five years of age.
