Kumasi — IT IS now evident that the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) would have nothing to do with sympathisers of the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), in the employment of personnel for some public and private institutions.
Coming on the heels of reported the dismissal of over 400 cocoa sprayers in the Ahafo Ano North District of the Ashanti Region, is a move by the NDC Chairman of the Sekyere East Constituency, Mr. Alhaji Adamu Issah, alias Malalas.
In a show of power, the party Chairman, who is also the Local Chairman of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), has allegedly orchestrated a move to displace all members of the Black Pod cocoa spraying gangs in the district, in a bid to replace them with NDC sympathisers.
The Chronicle can report that at a time the District Chief Executive (DCE) is in Accra for orientation for the new job, the Constituency Chairman is alleged to be moving heaven and earth to get the names of mass cocoa sprayers changed, and fill the vacancies with party sympathisers, thus more "jobs for the boys."
After conferring with the District Director of Agriculture, Malalas instructed the Constituency Secretary to write a cover note to a list of proposed names for the cocoa spraying exercise.
The Constituency Secretary, Mr. Asare Danso, acting on the instructions of the Chairman, consequently wrote the local Director of Agriculture, and furnished her with names for the intended replacement exercise.
The party has furnished Mrs. Mary Gally, District Director of Agriculture, with a list of 33 names of NDC members, enough to replace the members of the existing gangs for the exercise in the district, for her necessary action.
Each of the three gangs in district, located at Akokoaso, Seniagya and Nkwankwanua/Brofoyedu/Awaham, comprises 11 members. In a letter dated June 8, 2009, and copied to the DCE, who was not at post, the signatory indicated that the 33 names were for the necessary action of the Agriculture Director.
Mr. Asare Donkoh told The Chronicle that he acted on the instructions of the DCE, following a decision taken at a meeting on May 29, 2009, in the presence the Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr. Kofi Poku Manu, and party executives, to that effect.
According to him a similar displacement exercise, in which 20 new persons were recruited in the various communities for Zoomlion Company Limited, had already taken place.
Reacting to the development on phone from Accra, DCE Adae, who saw the move as yet another step by the constituency executives to undermine his administration, denied knowledge of the said decision, and said he had directed the suspension of the intended action, because "it is out of the way for the party executives to have masterminded a move like that."
The DCE noted that he could not run a parallel administration in the district, hence the need for Mrs. Mary Gally, to ignore the letter, and put the request on hold, until he is at post.
The Constituency Chairman is on record to have masterminded a campaign against the appointment of the DCE, when he allegedly influenced assembly members, including government appointees, to vote against his (Mr. Adae's) nomination in a first ballot late last April.
Eighteen of the members, representing 64.4% of the 28-member house, voted in favour of the 59-year-old teacher, while 10 members voted against his nomination, in total disregard of the Regional Minister's earlier plea to the assembly to ensure a 100% win for Mr. Adae. Mr. Adae, however, managed to get the mandate of the Assembly during the second ballot.
