Luanda — The minister of Agriculture, Afonso Pedro Canga, said on Monday in Luanda that the country needs a solid technological base and of improved scientific knowledge so as to respond to the challenges imposed by the current technological situation.
The official made this affirmation whilst speaking at the closing ceremony of the International Conference on "Natural resources: Technologies for a sustainable management and the socioeconomic development of Angola", organised by the Ministry of Science and Technology (MINCIT).
According to the minister, to respond to this situation a special attention should be given to the training of staff for an equal and sustained exploration and utilisation of the local, regional and national resources available.
"For this purpose, there is a need for using techniques and technologies that neither harm the environment nor the living standards of the population, since it is possible to maintain an economic growth without causing negative effects to the environment", he said.
Therefore to add scientific and technological research, as well as the spreading of knowledge, to this intention demands the implementation of programmes and encouraging youths to participate in projects of research, transference and utilisation of clean technologies in schools, faculties, factories and in farming fields.
To minister Pedro Canga, the event happens at an opportune moment and gathered staff of the sector and the areas such as the academic, scientific, industrial and entrepreneurial community, as well as government officials and organisations of the civil society.
He explained that what was analysed during the event, and the recommendations and conclusions from the conference show what needs to be done in various fields of knowledge so as to continue benefiting from various natural resources that Angola has and guarantee that future generations also profit from these wealth.
The event aimed at sensitising institutions of the state and the civil society on the importance of scientific research applied to the sustainable use and management of natural resources.
Topics of the discussions were addressed by Angolan, Cuban, Brazilian and Portuguese lecturers, and they mainly focussed on the "sustainable management of natural resources", "Scientific research in the management of natural resources" and "Natural resources and its application for sustainable development, among others.
