Cameroon: OIC International Seeks Government Support

Prime Minister Ephraim Inoni, yesterday received in audience officials of the Cameroon Opportunities Industrialisation Centre (OIC), Buea.

The Cameroon Opportunities Industrialisation Centre (OIC), Buea wants to partner with the government to expand its services and increase the number of centres in the country. The key mission of OIC established in Cameroon in 1986, is to teach appropriate, marketable skills that can enable disadvantaged young men and women to become self-reliant, economically productive and capable of improving the quality of life for themselves and their families.

The board chairman of OIC International-Cameroon, Barrister Sam Ekontang Elad led delegation to the Prime Minister's Office yesterday, June 16. " We came to introduce our important partners from the United States of America to the Prime Minister and seek government's partnership because we cannot succeed without the government", Barrister Ekontang Elad declared to journalists after their discussions with Prime Minister, Head of Government, Ephraim Inoni. OIC-Cameroon is an affiliate of OIC -International with headquarters in Philadelphia, USA. The US partners of OIC-Cameroon, Ekontang Elad said, were in the country to exchange ideas and give them greater capacity in the work they are doing.

Talking to the press, the Vice President of OIC-International, James M. Talton said the audience with Mr Inoni was to explain to government their services. He said the non-profit community-based organisation intends to double its services in Cameroon and the main way of success was creating partnerships with government and the private sector. On specific areas of expansion, James M. Talton said, they wanted to increase the number of centres in the country, double their programmes by putting in place additional programmes such as micro-finance that have succeeded in other countries.

OIC International-Cameroon Buea, offers vocational and technical training in auto mechanic/motor electricity, building construction, plumbing and electricity, hotel catering and management, information and communication technology, metal fabrication, welding and spraying, as well as wood work.
