Angola: Culture Ministry Holds Books Exhibition

18 June 2009

Luanda — The Ministry of Culture will hold on 25 to 28 June an exhibition dubbed Jardim do Livro Infantil (Children's Book Garden), in Luanda's Independence Square.

According to a press note from the institution released to ANGOP on Wednesday, the event will be held every year in the perspective of recognising the importance of books, as a privileged way for the aesthetic, moral and civic education, for the improvement of the knowledge and the valorisation and preservation of the national cultural heritage.

According to the press release, the activity is aimed at encouraging children to like books and reading, as well as appeals to the families, schools and the civil society for the importance of books in educating the new generations.

For the holding of the event, the Ministry of Culture invites the participation of editors, booksellers, entities whose activities may be the production and trading of cultural and leisure articles for children.

Public and private schools, crèches, orphanages, shelter centres, churches and associations are also invited to participate in the event to programme organised visits to the exhibition.

During the event, it will be held several activities such as the exhibition and sale of children's books, release of literary and music works, sessions of reading, drawing and painting, workshop on illustrations and creative writing, seminars, games, competitions and projection of films.
