Kampala — A LOSER in the Kyaddondo North by-election has asked the presiding judge, Joseph Murangira, to step aside from an election petition, citing bias.
Regina Bakitte, a Democratic Party (DP) member lost to Robert Ssebunya of the National Resistance Movement in the December 2008 poll.
Bakitte, represented by Crisostom Katumba, on June 16 asked Murangira to hand over the petition to the Principal Judge, James Ogoola.
Ssebunya replaced his late father, the former agriculture minister, Dr. Israel Kibirige Ssebunya, who died last year of throat cancer.
"Your lordship, you have manifested bias in a way you have been conducting the hearing of the matter," the petition read.
"Our client recalls statements and comments for the times she has appeared before court where you indicated that the petition is a simple one and that your work has been made easy by filing a simple and short petition."
Murangira of the Nakawa High Court yesterday said Bakitte had not followed the right procedure. The ruling will be made on Monday.
