Imo state governor, Ikedi Ohakim has been commended for the giant strides recorded in the "Clean and Green initiative programme" which has given the state the status of one of the cleanest state capitals in the country.
This commendation was made by a group called "New Face Organisation" in a press statement signed by Barrister Jerry E. Egemba, chairman planning committee of the group, made available to Daily Trust yesterday.
The group said to be a non -political organisation comprising of elders, youths, market women and religious leaders in Imo state maintained that it is out to promote democratic ideals and principles in the state.
It noted that Ohakim led administration has re-introduced the monthly clean up exercise , gutter delisting , refuse disposal exercise ; dismantling of Bill Boards in authorised locations and closure of illegal parks as parts of the laudable programmes of the government.
It further states that the land acquisition and payment of compensation to land owners, introduction of Timber and Allied regional market in Naze coupled with the provision of Imo Geographical Information service (IGIS) are some of the good initiatives of Imo government.
"construction of Imo free -way linking up over 500 communities in Imo state and construction of drainage structures at Amakohia market for flood control including asphalting of Nworie lane amongst several others are people oriented programmes, "it states further. The group urged the people of the state to always air their views on the activities of the government through them as they intend to serve as "feedback organ that will monitor the feelings and reactions of the people of Imo state and convey same to the government."
