Tanzania:Fly 540 Extends Wings to Serengeti

Arusha — A Kenyan budget airline, Fly 540, will start direct daily flights to Serengeti National Park on July 1.

Flights to the country's leading national park will originate from the Kilimanjaro International Airport (KIA).

The flights have been introduced following increased demand of visitors to the area, an airline official said.

Ms Annette Temba, Fly 540 sales and reservations executive in Arusha said the airline will use a 13 seater Cessna 208 Grand Caravan plane for its Serengeti route.

The airline, which inaugurated its flights to Tanzania early this year, currently operates daily flights between KIA and Nairobi as well as Zanzibar and Dar es Salaam.

Other destinations planned by the Kenyan airline in Tanzania include Dar es Salaam, Mwanza, Kigoma and elsewhere.

Besides Tanzania, the budget airline, established in 2006, also operates in Uganda and plans to inaugurate flights to Angola and Ghana using its larger aircrafts.

According to Mr. Nickson Ooko, the firm's operations manager the airline has seen a big potential in aviation industry in EA.

In Kenya, the airline flies to Mombasa, Malindi, Lamu, Eldoret, Kisumu and Kitale. Fly 540 also operates a daily flight to Entebbe in Uganda.
