Cameroon: ITSO seeks Cameroon's Assistance

G.B.

23 June 2009

José M. Toscano was received in audience yesterday by the Minister of State, Minister for Post and Telecommunications, Bello Bouba Maïgari.

The Director General of the International Telecommunications Satellite Organization (ITSO), José M. Toscano, says he counts so much on the advice from the Minister of State , Minister for Post and Telecommunications, Bello Bouba Maïgari, to continually keep the organization at the service of the African people.

He made the remark yesterday after an audience granted him by the minister. He said Bello Bouba Maïgari has been the chairman of the Assembly of Parties of ITSO for the past four years and that based on the minister's goodwill, he thought it wise to seek his advice on how to better handle the organization so that it continues to be at the service of the people. He sounded optimistic that after the audience, things would never remain the same for ITSO again. "I am very happy with the advice I have received and I hope Cameroon will continue to play the role it has been playing for the last four years" José M. Toscano said.

ITSO is an intergovernmental organization whose mission is to ensure that Intelsat Ltd (the commercial telecommunications entity it supervises) provides public telecommunications services, including voice, data and video, on a global and non-discriminatory basis.

Its core principles are, among others, maintaining global connectivity and global coverage for any country or territory that desires to connect with any other country within and between America, Western Europe, Eastern Europe, Africa and Asia.

The Assembly of Parties of ITSO is the governing body of the organization and meets every two years in ordinary assemblies.
