I read the stories of our recent past not through the eyes of the casualties, but through the eyes of courageous reporters, who zeroed cameras on the events as they happened and kept pens on papers throughout those dangerous years. Your heroism and courage under fire has gone a long way in supporting and upholding specifically Article 19 of the Universal Human Rights - the right to freedom of expression.
"Therefore, we are gathered here today, as members of a distinguished profession, for the main purpose of brainstorming and stimulating thought-provoking questions and ideas aimed at envisioning not only a better future for Sierra Leone media, but also in scheming a roadmap that will lead us to a digital age media world of cutting-hedge technology and innovation in the next five or ten years."
