Sierra Leone: Scf to Rescue Salone Education

Freetown — The Sierra College Foundation, SCF, an organization registered with the Companies House in England and Wales will on June 27 this year officially start its operations in Sierra Leone with the aim to encourage Sierra Leonean youth fulfill their highest potential through education.

Founder and Chief Executive of SCF, Joshua Kamanda told Concord Times that the Foundation's goal is to help increase the pass rate of students writing the BECE and WASSCE examinations in subjects like English Language, General and Further Mathematics.

According to Kamanda, standards in education are falling in a country once considered as the Athens of West Africa, citing latest statistics in the 2008 WASSCE results, which indicate that only 3.44% and 7.8% of students secured passes in General Maths and English Language respectively.

The organization, he said, has been formed to address such poor performance by students, noting that by launching the project, the Sierra College Foundation will help provide tutorial support for all WASSCE students, construct Mathematics libraries with computer facilities in all regions of the country, and also serve as a supporting base in promoting educational advancement for all youths in Sierra Leone.

Kamanda said the mission of SCF is to provide educational opportunity and workforce development through a broad range of programs, while their philosophy is to encourage all youths in Sierra Leone to fulfill their highest potential through education.

He said registration begins on June 29 at their 7 Robert Street office in Freetown with a subject going for Le20, 000 per annum. He added that the opportunity will be replicated to other provincial towns of the country after finalizing their Freetown operations.
