Keren — The Minister of Justice, Ms. Fwazia Hashim, said that apart from providing the public with administration of justice from close quarters, community magistrates are making significant contribution in preserving societal norms and traditions.
The minister made the remarks in a meeting she conducted with community judges in Keren town, Anseba region. She explained that community magistrates have enabled citizens to settle cases through reconciliation. Besides, such courts are making due contribution in raising popular awareness about law.
Reports indicated that out of the cases presented to the community magistrates in the Anseba region, over 80% of them have been settled through reconciliation. There are a total of 135 community judges, the reports added.
