Freetown — Speaker of the house of parliament yesterday appointed ten parliamentarians to look into the alleged land case against the majority leader, Hon. Edward Turay and Hon. Dauda Dumbuya.
Justice Abel Stronge said the committee will investigate and report on the allegation made by the minister of lands that certain members of parliament were involved in illegal land dealings.
"The committee will examine, analyze, evaluate and report on the documents presented to parliament by the minister as evidence against Hon. Turay and Hon. Dauda Dumbuya," he said.
About two weeks ago, the minister of lands, country planning and the environment, Dr. Dennis Sandy, accused the majority leader of acquiring acres of land fictitiously, but Hon. Turay denied the allegation saying the minister and other unnamed persons were bent on tarnishing his image.
Hon. Stronge said the committee, which has 15 working days to compile its report, should also be able to substantiate claims made by the minister on June 9 at the well of parliament and come up with recommendations.
Members in the committee include Hon. PC Mohamed Benya V as chairman, Hon. Sofian Kanu (APC), Hon. Amadu Kanu (APC), Hon. Chernor M. Bah (APC), Hon. Moinina Conteh (SLPP) and Hon. Sheka Musa Sama (PMDC).
In all, the ruling APC has four members in the committee, the SLPP three, PMDC one and two Paramount Chiefs.
