Sierra Leone: Director Boycotts SLFA Congress?

Freetown — The conspicuous absence of the director of sports in the just concluded Sierra Leone Football Association, SLFA extraordinary congress held in Kenema saw stakeholders raising serious concern as to whether or not it was a deliberate attempt by him to boycott the session.

Bai Kabia was expected to have represented the sports council and the ministry of sports at the event but his absence was noticed when the chairman, Joseph S. Keilfala asked for a statement to be made on behalf of the ministry.

The excuse given for the director's absence was that no vehicle was made available to have facilitated his travel to Kenema.

However, members of the football family were not happy by Mr. Kabia's action to stay in Freetown, and after the opening session some of them who spoke to Concord Sports said they were not pleased with such an attitude.

Abdulai Sesay, an observer in the hall said the action of the sports director was deliberate and that the excuse presented was only meant to cushion the anger of other delegates.

"His action was deliberate, and it clearly demonstrates that the director and the football association are not in good working relationship," Sesay said.

However, members of the SLFA have all refused to comment on the issue as they fear that will create some misunderstanding between the FA and sports council.

Despite the assembly being dubbed 'Peace and Reconciliation Congress', the director's absence has created suspicion that both parties are not enjoying a good working relationship.
