Nigeria: R. Kelly Tickets Go On Sale for Lagos, Abuja Dates

24 June 2009

Lagos — Tickets for the 2009 THISDAY Music Fes-tival starring American R&B legend, R. Kelly, with African icons, Lagbaja, D'Banj, Neto C, Wande Cole, PSquare and others performing, will go on sale today for the Abuja and Lagos dates.

R. Kelly, who performed at the Arise African Fashion Awards in Johannesburg, South Africa, last Saturday, is scheduled to play at the Sun City Superbowl on Saturday and Grandwest Casino next Monday in Cape Town, South Africa.

The tickets for the Abuja and Lagos dates will be on sale at THISDAY Dome in Abuja and THISDAY Media Stores, The Palms, Lagos.

The Abuja show will hold at THISDAY Dome on Sunday, July 5, after R. Kelly's two appearances in Lagos. The venues for Lagos will be known to the ticket holders.

On July 3, in Lagos, he will give a VIP special command performance at a seven-star venue and round off the Lagos leg of the tour with another performance on July 4.

The tickets in South Africa are sold out both in Johannesburg and Cape Town, with South African clamouring for more shows.

R.Kelly will perform at the grand finale of THISDAY Music Festival 2009 holding at the Wembley Arena, London.

Last Saturday at the Sandton International Conv-ention Centre, Johann-esburg, more than 1000 fashion insiders and guests converged to celebrate the fashion talent of Africa at the inaugural Arise Africa Fashion awards.

South African David Tlale and Nigerian Tiffany Amber won the joint top prize of Designer of the Year.

They have both now won a place on the catwalks of Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week in September of this year, as part of the Arise African Fashion Collective show.

Hosts, Dr Precious Moloi Motsepe, from African Fashion International (AFI), and Nduka Obai-gbena, Arise founder and THISDAY Group chairman said "change in Africa will not come through politics, but through the people".

This was a theme of the evening that was echoed in the moving speech by former first lady of France, Cecilia Attias, who spoke of her belief that women would offer the real solutions to the issues of Africa and quoting Desmond Tutu and his definition of Ubuntu, saying that "a person is a person through other persons".

This was the case with fashion in Africa at the event - designers, models, producers, media and buyers from the four regions of Africa and across the world, came together in an unprecedented demonstration of African unity to celebrate the diversity and cultural authenticity of this continent's fashion in the context of a world-class, 21st century fashion aesthetic.
