The Secretary of State for Youth and Sports, Hon. Sheriff Gomez, said after searching all the closed files dating from 1994-2002 the documents relating to the Soma Mini Stadium could not be traced. He said this, while responding to a question asked by the member for Jarra Central regarding the existence of any comprehensive agreement document on the Soma mini stadium between the contractor and his ministry.

Minister Gomez said they were informed by Mr. Yaya Fatty, the first contractor of the project, that there was no written agreement signed and that everything relating to this contract was based on a 'gentleman agreement' as is explained in his statement submitted to the ministry.

The member for Jarra Central further asked what the stand of the ministry is regarding the Santa Yalla Construction Company and Yaya Fatty of Kiang Kaiaf for failing to complete the construction of the said Soma mini-stadium.

The minister, in response, said they were able to meet Mr. Fatty for the first time on 18 June 2009 and that according to him (Fatty), four hundred thousand dalasi (D 400,000) was paid to him for the construction of four dormitories before the contract was terminated and given to Santa Yalla Construction Company through Gamworks Agency. He said the ministry will endeavour to liaise with Gamworks to hear their version before any action is taken on the issue.

The Member for Jarra Central also asked about the cause of the apparent delay on the construction of Soma mini-stadium.

Minister Gomez answered that the construction of the Soma mini-stadium commenced in 1994-1995 and for some reasons unknown to them, the project was abandoned and that there problem at the level of ministry is the lack of documents pertaining to the said project.

He further said that the ministry, in collaboration with stakeholders, is looking for possibilities of mobilizing the required resources for the completion of the said structure.
