Bauchi — OIL exploration in Bauchi and Gombe states is to resume soon just as the sum of N30 million is required to carry out the re-surveying of the area to determine the quantity available.

This was disclosed by the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) Chairman, Professor Agbaji Ogezi during an inspection visit to the two oil wells in Benue, which was drilled by Shell and Chevron in 1999 and 2000, located at Alkaleri LGA of Bauchi State.

"When accessed, regional and local geological fieldwork, remote sensing, GIS, structural, geo-physical and geo-chemical date would be gathered and interpreted in order to assess overall oil and gas, mineral and environmental resources potential of the areas," he said

"This would facilitate Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and future environmental liability issues of the areas. Study would thus facilitate planning and socio-economic development in the sub-region," he added.

He then disclosed that already multinational oil and gas companies have drilled a number of oil wells in the Benue trough especially three in the upper\Northern Benue trough.

COMMERCE AND FINIANCE ARE THE FACTORS THAT DRIVE OIL EXPLORATIONS NOT POLITICS. IF THERE ARE VERIFIABLE, PROFITABLE AND VIABLE OIL DEPOSITS, INVESTORS WILL COME IN. ANY THING SHORT OF THESE FORGET IT.
