Concord — Minister of agriculture, forestry and food security has said that human development comes from food security.

Dr. Joseph Sam Sesay told journalists during a press briefing on the Indian loan credit at his ministry's conference hall, Youyi building, that his ministry has received three hundred and eighty-five (385) tractors to boost farmers across the country.

"The agriculture ministry and its partners are very collaborative to ensure there is lot of food in the county by next season. We first target how to farm, that is why we have provided machines that would help farmers. We are not only looking at the production but also how we can market our products," Dr. Sesay said.

He noted that some of the objectives of his ministry are to achieve sustainable food security and reduce poverty through agricultural intensification, diversification and the efficient management of the natural resource base.

"The ministry of agriculture, forestry and food security has the mandate to support the production of all crops and livestock in an environmentally sustainable manner and to ensure the achievement of food security. To underscore this genuine commitment to the development of the nation's agriculture and eventual alleviation of poverty, H.E. the President created the portfolio of "Food Security" under the ministry," the minister stated.

Director general in the agriculture ministry, Francis Sankoh who chaired the briefing, said they were very concern about food security in the country.
