25 June 2009

Luanda — The executive secretary of the Social Solidarity Fund (Lwini), Alfredo Ferreira, said Wednesday that part of the revenue to be raised in next December's friendly match opposing an African players team, dubbed "Drogba's friends" and the Angolan national squad who are preparing themselves for CAN2010, will be used for the benefit of disadvantaged children.

This was said by the Ivorian striker Didier Drogba (Chelsea player, English Premier League) on the sidelines of the visit to the institution led by the First Lady of Angola, Ana Paula dos Santos, the Lwini Fund.

According to Alfredo Ferreira, the 31-year old player learnt of the operation of Lwini and expressed solidarity with the objectives of supporting the most vulnerable, with stress to landmines victims, abandoned children and Women.

The player foresees a possible cooperation agreement between the Lwini Fund and the organisations he leads.

The exact date and stadium where the match will be held is still to be fixed between the footballer and the Organising Committee of the African Cup (COCAN), to happen on 10-31 January 2010.

Drogba who is in Angola since early Wednesday has already granted a press conference and held meeting with the minister of Youth and Sports, Gonçalves Muadumba.

He is expected to leave the country on Friday.
