Although agricultural production has increased this year, with the maize crop to have more than doubled, high food insecurity persists in Zimbabwe, according to a new report released jointly by the United Nations food and agriculture agencies.
This year's abundant rainfall has resulted in the amount of maize harvested - 1.14 metric tonnes - recording a 130 per cent increase over 2008.
But the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and World Food Programme (WFP) study warned that this winter's wheat harvest is only expected to yield 12,000 tonnes, the lowest ever, due to the high cost of fertilizers and seeds, farmers' lack of funds and the unreliable electricity supply for irrigation.
The Zimbabwean Government's liberalization of most of the economy's sectors, with the adoption of the United States dollar and the South African rand as legal currencies, has brought the annual inflation rate down to zero from its high last year, estimated by the World Bank to be 56 million per cent.
In addition, grain market reform has led to the free movement of grain, which has now filled shops at a lower price.
But for many households without access to foreign currency, food remains out of reach, the agencies cautioned.
Despite this year's bountiful maize crop, "having depleted their food stocks and sold livestock and other assets to cope with the effects of recent crises, many rural households are still struggling to survive," said WFP's Jan Delbaere, who co-led the UN mission early last month which produced the new report.
According to the report, some 2.8 million Zimbabweans will need food assistance between April 2009 and March 2010. Only 1.4 million tonnes of the more than 2 million tonnes of cereal needed will be produced domestically this year.
The agencies recommend that the Government and the international community provide fertilizer and seed to help farmers, noting that for Zimbabwe's food production to become sustainable, the country will need to re-establish its domestic seed industry, promote conservation agriculture and rehabilitate its irrigation facilities.

First note that the ICC can now be viewed as a tool of hegemonic U.S. foreign policy,
where the weapons deployed by the U.S. and its allies include the accusations of, and
indictments for, human rights violations, war crimes and crimes against humanity.

five black African warlords and seeks to incarcerate and bring to trial another black man,

The sad fact is that the International Criminal Court has become terribly
politicized, as has the entire international justice apparatus.

state. Meanwhile, according to Snow, an Israeli weapons dealer, also a reputed Mossad
operative, is revealed to be shipping weapons into Sudan with Pentagon support.
And Belgium changed its law rather than prosecute Ariel Sharon for war crimes.
The double standard cries out to us.
One country in the West, however, increasingly stands out as a place where
justice can be found?and that is Spain. With its landmark indictment of
Pinochet and its current consideration of Israeli war crimes in Lebanon and
U.S. torture in Guantanamo, we increasingly look to the Spanish Courts with
hope. It was the Spanish courts that returned indictments against Rwandan
soldiers for genocide even as the world coddles U.S. proxy Rwanda and its
leader, Paul Kagame.

I grew tired of your cut-&-paste doggerel, so I decided to fact-check your claims that Black Africans actually “invented” the things you have claimed they did (courtesy of the Black Inventors Museum in Los Angeles, California). Most of your claims are out and out WRONG or complete fabrications! Maybe you’ve heard of this “invention” called Wikipedia?
I have put counter-claims to your assertions that Black Africans “invented” many of the things you claim they have. As a matter of FACT it is somewhat disingenuous of you NOT to mention that most of these “inventors” were people of African descent living in the United States (coincidence? I think not)! I have placed contrary evidence to your assertions in parentheses directly underneath each of your fallacious assertions:

I was going to look at more of your “examples” of great African “inventors” (and I did!), but your “interpretation” of what an “invention” actually IS, is somewhat suspect. Most of these “great innovators” were just adding improvements to devices or concepts that pre-existed their work – THAT IS NOT AN INVENTION!
That’s sort of like me asking what white people (the West) have done with things we actually KNOW black people invented – like fire! Scientists generally agree that mankind originated in Africa (so can we ALL agree that fire is an African “invention?) I mean, who didn’t see “Quest for Fire”?), they probably figured out fire before many of them left for better locations and turned into white people.
Or maybe……….. It’s like asking what Robert Mugabe and his ZANU-PF henchmen have done with Zimbabwe since they inherited it from the racist regime of Ian Smith! Most of the people you mentioned in your encyclopedic diarrhea merely improved on something “invented” by others who happen NOT to be Black!
